On March 17th, data released by an international steel price monitoring agency showed that the global benchmark hot-rolled coil (HRC FOB) price was $465/ton, fluctuating between $460-470/ton during the day, a slight decrease of 0.8% from the previous day, continuing its high-level fluctuation trend. Regional price divergence was significant: the ex-factory price of hot-rolled coil in the US Midwest reached $1110/ton, a weekly increase of $12, driven by the recovery in domestic infrastructure demand and restocking demand, becoming the global price high; the EU hot-rolled coil mill price was $812/ton, a weekly increase of $14, showing a steady upward trend; the Asian market was relatively stable, with rebar prices in Dubai, Middle East, at $525/ton, an increase of 2.1%, while Southeast Asian rebar prices remained stable at $495/ton. Analysts point out that the expectation that the Federal Reserve will not cut interest rates in March and the strengthening of the US dollar will put downward pressure on steel prices, while the release of demand during China's "Golden March" peak season and the high prices of iron ore and coking coal will provide cost support. It is expected that global hot-rolled coil prices will fluctuate widely in the range of $460-$490 in the next 1-2 weeks.
