Global demand for high-end steel plates is rising, and steel coil products are upgrading towards higher added value.

On March 4th, an industry analysis report showed that by 2026, the proportion of steel used in global manufacturing is expected to exceed 50%, replacing construction steel as the main driver of demand. This will drive a continuous increase in demand for high-end steel coils and plates, with high-strength steel, weathering steel, and special steel plates being the core growth drivers. In terms of application areas, the demand is most prominent in the new energy sector.

This will drive a continuous increase in demand for high-end steel coils and plates, with high-strength steel, weathering steel, and special steel plates being the core growth drivers. In terms of application areas, the demand is most prominent in the new energy sector. A single offshore wind turbine requires over 1200 tons of steel, mainly relying on thick tower plates that are fatigue-resistant and seawater corrosion-resistant. Photovoltaic supports extensively use weathering steel. The increasing penetration rate of new energy vehicles is driving a surge in demand for 1500MPa grade hot-formed steel, which is more than 10 times stronger than ordinary steel. Simultaneously, the demand for high-grade non-oriented electrical steel for drive motors is rising. Regarding steel coils, demand for high-end galvanized coils and color-coated coils is also increasing. On March 16th, galvanized sheet prices rose 0.43% month-on-month, and color-coated sheet prices rose 0.79%, ranking among the top steel product categories in terms of price increases. Analysts believe that the supply-demand gap for high-end steel coils and plates is unlikely to be filled in the short term, and prices are expected to remain stable with a slight upward trend. Enterprises need to accelerate the layout of high-end product production capacity and technological upgrades.
